How to support projects responsibly

Two ways to support

Marmel.AI offers two ways to support creators depending on the campaign type. In audience campaigns, you subscribe to follow a project - no payment required. Your subscription helps the creator validate demand, build visibility, and grow a community before launching a funding campaign.

In funding campaigns, you contribute financially to help a creator produce their project. Your contribution is processed through Stripe and deposited directly into the creator's Stripe account. Marmel.AI does not hold your funds - we only facilitate the transaction and apply a transparent platform commission.

Both forms of support matter. Subscribing to an audience campaign costs nothing but signals real interest. Contributing to a funding campaign provides the resources creators need to bring their vision to life.

Summary
  • Audience campaigns: subscribe to follow (no payment)
  • Funding campaigns: contribute financially
  • Both types of support help creators succeed

Why support a project?

Supporting a project on Marmel.AI is more than a transaction. It's participation in bringing new creative work into the world. You become part of the story before it exists, helping a creator turn an idea into something real.

Unlike traditional entertainment where you consume what's already been made, crowdfunding lets you shape what gets created. Your support signals what stories matter, which voices deserve a platform, and what kinds of projects should exist. Every contribution, large or small, is a vote for the kind of creative future you want to see.

Here are some reasons supporters choose to back projects:

Reasons to back a project
  • Be part of the story - Your name appears in credits, connecting you permanently to a finished work. You helped make it happen.
  • Get visible exposure - Some AI-generated content receives views in the millions. Pledges that include credits, product placement, or identity appearance put you or your brand in front of a potentially large audience. Results are not guaranteed, but supporting multiple projects with relatively small amounts, compared to traditional marketing costs, offers a chance for strong returns on visibility.
  • Promote your brand creatively - Ad placement, product integration, or logo appearances let you reach audiences in a native, story-driven way. Characters can use your product, wear your brand, or feature your message in scene.
  • Access exclusive content - Some pledges include behind-the-scenes material, early access, or other perks unavailable to general audiences.
  • Shape what gets made - By funding projects you believe in, you influence which stories get told and which creators get opportunities.
  • Join a community - Backing a project connects you with other supporters who share your interests and taste.
  • Support emerging creators - Many talented filmmakers lack access to traditional funding. Your contribution helps level the playing field and brings new voices into the industry.

Before you contribute

Supporting a crowdfunding project is an act of faith and partnership with a creator. Before you commit your funds, take the time to thoroughly read the project story, goals, and timeline. Understand what the creator is trying to achieve, why it matters, and what challenges they might face along the way. Look for specifics: clear descriptions of deliverables, realistic timelines, and evidence that the creator has thought through the production process. Projects with vague promises, unrealistic schedules, or lack of detail are riskier.

Review the creator's past work and any updates they've posted. Have they successfully completed projects before? Do they communicate regularly and transparently with their community? A creator's track record is one of the best indicators of whether they'll deliver on their promises. If the creator is new to the platform, look for evidence of their skills and commitment in their portfolio, social media presence, or the quality of the campaign itself. Well-produced teaser videos, thoughtful project descriptions, and active engagement with comments are all positive signs.

Understand that crowdfunding is not the same as shopping online. When you back a project, you're supporting a creative vision that hasn't been fully realized yet. Results are not guaranteed, and timelines may shift due to production challenges, funding levels, or unforeseen circumstances. By contributing, you're accepting a degree of risk and uncertainty in exchange for being part of something new and potentially transformative. If you're not comfortable with that uncertainty, it's better to wait until the project is complete and available through traditional distribution channels.

Before you back
  • Read the project story and timeline carefully
  • Review creator updates and past work
  • Understand that results are not guaranteed
  • Only contribute what you're comfortable risking

After you contribute

Once you've backed a project, stay engaged by following project updates. Creators typically post progress reports, behind-the-scenes content, and news about challenges or achievements. These updates keep you informed and help you feel connected to the creative journey. If you have questions or concerns, reach out to the creator directly through the platform's messaging system. Most creators appreciate feedback and are eager to keep their supporters in the loop.

Be respectful and constructive in your interactions. Comments, messages, and public discussions should reflect the collaborative spirit of crowdfunding. If you're disappointed or frustrated with a delay or change, express your concerns calmly and give the creator a chance to respond. Remember that most creators are working hard to deliver on their promises and appreciate patience and understanding when obstacles arise. Hostile or abusive behavior damages the community and can discourage creators from sharing updates or seeking help when they need it.

If you encounter payment issues, account problems, or disputes, use the official support channels rather than airing grievances publicly. Contact our support team with specific details, transaction IDs, dates, error messages, and we'll work to resolve the issue quickly and fairly. Public complaints without giving the platform or creator a chance to address the problem privately can escalate tensions unnecessarily.

To-do
  • Follow project updates regularly
  • Be respectful and constructive in comments
  • Contact the creator directly with questions
  • Use official support channels for payment issues

Subscribing to audience campaigns

What subscribing means

Audience campaigns allow you to follow a project without making any financial commitment. When you subscribe, you join the project's audience and receive updates as the creator develops their work.

Subscribing is free and signals genuine interest in the project. It helps creators validate demand, build a community, and prepare for potential funding campaigns. Your subscription may influence whether and when a creator decides to move forward with production.

Why it matters

Even without money involved, your subscription has real value. It tells the creator that their idea resonates. It builds a foundation of supporters who may contribute when a funding campaign launches. And it gives the creator confidence to invest time and effort into developing the project further.

If you're interested in a project but not ready to contribute financially, or if the creator hasn't launched a funding campaign yet, subscribing is the best way to show support and stay informed.

reasons to subscribe
  • Free to subscribe - no payment required

Pledges and contributions

Supporting a funding campaign

When you support a funding campaign on Marmel.AI, you contribute by choosing a predefined pledge tier. Pledge tiers are set by the creator and include a fixed amount, a short description, and perks or recognition.

The maximum individual pledge is $1,000. This limit helps ensure broad community participation and reduces risk for both supporters and creators.

Every contribution helps creators progress with production and delivery. Even partial funding allows creators to move forward, which is why projects are structured to deliver meaningful results at various funding levels.

What pledges typically include

It's up to each creator to decide what they offer in their pledge tiers. However, we recommend creators consider the following types of recognition, which are common and valued by supporters:

Common pledge types
  • Thank-you credits (closing) - Your name appears in the end credits of the finished project. A simple, lasting way to be acknowledged as a supporter.
  • Thank-you credits (opening) - Your name appears in the opening credits, typically reserved for higher contribution levels. More prominent visibility.
  • Ad placement - Your brand, product, or message appears within the project as an in-scene placement or dedicated mention. Characters may use or interact with your product, wear an outfit featuring your logo, or display your branded items in scene. A native, story-driven way to reach audiences.
  • Identity placement - Your name, logo, brand, or actual face is integrated visually into the project on props, signage, background elements, or as a character appearance. A creative way to literally become part of the story.
  • Behind-the-scenes access - Exclusive updates, production diaries, deleted scenes, or work-in-progress materials not available to the general audience.
  • Early access - See the finished content before public release. Rewards commitment with exclusivity.
  • Digital assets - Wallpapers, concept art, soundtrack files, scripts, or other downloadable materials related to the project.

How payments work

Contributions are processed through Stripe Connect and deposited directly into the creator's verified Stripe account. Marmel.AI does not hold, control, or access backer funds. Our role is limited to facilitating the transaction and applying a transparent platform commission of 5% or less.

The current payment workflow is driven by Stripe Connect operations. Creators receive contributions as they come in, even if the full funding goal is not reached. This allows projects to move forward at any funding level. For this reason, creators are encouraged to plan projects in episodes or parts, so they can deliver meaningful content regardless of final totals.

A 1–2 week grace period applies after each contribution. During this window, Marmel.AI may reverse a transaction if you request it or if issues arise, such as suspected fraud or Terms violations. After the grace period ends, funds are settled and available to the creator.

If you need to request a reversal during the grace period, contact support promptly with your transaction details.

Transparency and expectations

Before contributing, review the campaign page carefully. Each creator provides a project summary, timeline, and delivery plan so you can understand what to expect and how progress will be communicated.

Contributions on Marmel.AI support creative production. They do not grant ownership, equity, profit-sharing, or control over the project. You are backing a creative vision, not making an investment. This model keeps creators independent while giving supporters visibility into progress through updates.

Once a campaign is live, creators can only make limited updates to maintain fairness and transparency. If you notice significant inconsistencies or have concerns, contact support for clarification before contributing.

Grace period and reversals

After you contribute, a 1–2 week grace period begins. During this time, you may request a transaction reversal by contacting support. Reversals may also be initiated by Marmel.AI if issues are detected, such as suspected fraud, Terms violations, or payment disputes.

Once the grace period ends, the transaction is considered final. At that point, the creator is responsible for delivering what they described, and you can follow progress through updates and releases.

Refunds after the grace period are not guaranteed and are handled on a case-by-case basis according to platform policy and payment processor rules. If disputes arise, our support team will work with you and the creator to find a fair resolution.
